Money available for waste projects

Media Release

Tuesday 8 December 2015

Money available for waste projects

Got a great idea for a new project that’ll reduce, reuse or recycle waste? It’s the last week to get applications in for the Waste Minimisation fund.

“Council has funding available for projects that’ll help care for our environment and reduce the amount of waste to landfill,” says funding and contracts advisor Julie Conder.

“If you have a great idea to reduce, reuse or recycle waste in our district - we would love to hear from you.”

Any project that will help to reduce waste and care for the environment will be considered.

Council administers this local fund for the region which is provided by a national levy on waste going to landfills.

It supports community driven projects such as composting schemes, creative ways to turn trash into treasure or ways to simply reduce the amount of rubbish that goes to landfill.

Funding up to $10,000 is available for projects from community organisations, schools, marae and commercial organisations.

Applications close Friday 11 December 2015.

If you would like more info on the scheme or would like to talk about your project contact Julie Conder on 06 869 2480.

Applications are available from council offices in Fitzherbert Street or Te Puia and online at www.gdc.govt.nz/waste-minimisation-fund .
