Public welcome to talk with aquifer scientist

Principle scientist for the proposed Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) trial, Bob Bower of Golders International, will be in Gisborne on Thursday 10 December.

Mr Bower will meet with Council staff and stakeholders involved in the proposed trial, and will be available to talk to the public.

“There’ll be opportunities to ask questions and discuss the project for anyone wants to know more about the trial,” says water conservation team leader Dennis Crone.

“We’ll be holding a drop in session for members of the public to come and ask him questions, talk about the way the risks will be managed, and where the trial may lead.”

Bob Bower has worked on Managed Aquifer Projects around the world.

“He is the main author of the Golder reports that will inform resource consent applications that are required before the pilot trial proceeds.”

“We encourage anyone who is interested in talking with Mr Bower to come along to the drop-in sessions at Council Chambers on Thursday 10 December between 12pm and 2pm.”

The MAR proposed trial is to investigate one of the solutions to manage declining water levels in the Makauri Aquifer.

More investigation on the water sources for the trial are being investigated before lodging resource consents.

The consents will be notified for the public to have their say before a decision is made to go ahead or not.
