The Goodwill Express is running again in 2015
Volunteers from Tranz Metro will be back on-board the Goodwill Express on Saturday 5 December and visiting stations across the region to collect food for the Salvation Army’s Christmas food bank appeal.
General Metro Manager, David Shepherd, says that the Goodwill Express is a great way for staff to work with the Salvation Army to help the community.
“The Goodwill Express began when some of our Tranz Metro staff came up with the idea to collect contributions to improve the Christmas of those in need and use one of the trains to help.
“On-Board Team Leader Wayne Bedford and Train Manager Gary Innes have been the driving force behind this initiative. It is thanks to their enthusiasm and the hard work of all the volunteers that the Express is now in its sixth year.
“This is about helping people, spreading festive cheer, and giving something back to the community who support passenger rail services in the region throughout the year.
“KiwiRail is pleased to be able to fund and provide this special train and the public are asked to donate their non-perishable goods to the “Sallies” at one of the stations this Saturday.”
Mr Shepherd says that the Express will be stopping at every station between Wellington and Upper Hutt, Wellington and Waikanae, and Wellington and Johnsonville.
