Part of Curletts Road to close for bridge girders delivery
Delivery of seven steel-reinforced concrete bridge girders, each over 30 metres long, will close part of Curletts Road
for up to seven nights from next Monday, 30 November 2015.
Christchurch City Council Unit Manager Assets and Networks Chris Gregory says the road closures are subject to weather
conditions and include motorway on and off ramps and the roundabout on Curletts Road in both directions.
Each closure is planned from 9pm to 5.30am the next day. A detour will be in place during these times.
The girders, manufactured in Rolleston using customised moulds, will be transported by a truck with a special trailer
driven separately.
"It will be an impressive sight to see these huge girders coming down SH1 and the Christchurch Southern Motorway," Mr
Gregory says.
"Cranes will be positioned either side of Curletts Road to lift the girders into place between two columns," he says.
The bridge, being built by Council contractors Hawkins Infrastructure, has three sections and the first seven girders
will form the middle part of the bridge.
The remaining 12 girders, for the two sections either side of the middle part, will be delivered early next year.
