Parnell Festival of Roses - 22 years and it’s never looked better
The annual Parnell Festival of Roses will be held this weekend and excitement is building. The festival will be run a little differently than previous years, with a new one-day programme that is expected to restore the buzz of the event and provide an even better festival experience. The council events team have worked hard to present an exciting programme and one-day festival with appeal for all ages.
The festival continues to be home to some favourite regulars, including fairy walks, rose demonstrations and traditional dancers; it will also continue to be Smokefree, Zero Waste and strive towards being accessible for all.
There are 70 new food product stalls, roving performers and symphonies playing amongst the roses which will help to spread the crowd out and entertain the larger numbers expected. Public are encouraged to bring the whole family and enjoy the full day’s entertainment.
“We are proud of this event; it is a highlight for the Parnell community and draws visitors from across Auckland.” Says Shale Chambers, Chair of Waitematā Local Board, which funds the festival.
“There is strong community support for this event and we see the return of stalls from Heritage Roses, Parnell heritage as well as The Parnell Trust and Auckland Rose Society.
“The Dove Myer Robinson Park sits under the local board governance. Over the past two years alone the parks team have planted over 1000 new roses, often replacing poor performing varieties, which means the gardens are constantly improving and there is always something new to see.”
