National Commemoration of Armistice Day


The National Commemoration of Armistice Day will be held in the Hall of Memories, Pukeahu National War Memorial Park at 11.00am on Wednesday 11 November.

After four years of conflict the Armistice to end World War One was signed between the Allies and the German forces and on the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month the guns fell silent. Throughout New Zealand bells were rung and parades were held to signal the end of the war to end all wars.

Formalities at Wednesday’s commemoration include wreath laying, the roll of honour, ringing the remembrance bell and last post ceremony.

Dignitaries laying wreaths include the British High Commissioner His Excellency Jonathan Sinclair LVO and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Her Excellency O’Love Jacobsen. On behalf of New Zealand Youth Izzy Holborow and Amanda Xirafaxis will lay a wreath and place fern sprigs on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
