Expect delays at Te Atatu next weekend

Expect delays at Te Atatu next weekend

The NZ Transport Agency says significant lane restrictions will have an impact on drivers using the Te Atatu interchange on SH16 next weekend, from 10pm Friday 13 November to 5amMonday 16 November.

To safely accommodate additional traffic volumes on the newly widened and raised Te Atatu Bridge, extra strengthening on the western side of the bridge is needed.

These works will be carried out over the weekend when traffic volumes are lower, to reduce the impact and disruption to motorists as much as possible.

“Although traffic levels are quieter over a weekend, delays are still likely,” says the Transport Agency’s Acting Auckland Highway Manager, Tim Crow.

“To help us complete the work as quickly as possible we are asking people to stay off the affected roads, use alternative routes, or allow plenty of time to get through the interchange. We would like to thank people for their continued patience and support.”

The lane closures will be from 10pm Fri 13 Nov to 5am Mon 16 Nov and are as follows:-

• Reduced traffic lanes over Te Atatu Bridge

• The right turn from Te Atatu South to the citybound on-ramp will be closed

• The citybound loop motorway on-ramp will be open

• One lane only on the westbound motorway off-ramp towards Te Atatu Peninsula

• The right turn from the citybound motorway off-ramp towards Te Atatu South will be closed

• The right turn from Te Atatu Peninsula to the westbound on-ramp will be closed

• The northwestern cycleway and motorway will remain open.

This work is part of the Te Atatu Interchange Upgrade Project, one of six projects either completed or under construction to link the Northwestern and Southwestern (SH20) motorways and providing a motorway alternative to SH1 known as the Western Ring Route. The project is widening the five existing motorway on-ramps and exits at Te Atatu and improving access for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. It is also widening the Northwestern motorway between the Te Atatu interchange and Henderson Creek and is due to be completed early 2016.
