Registrations Open for Disability Water Sports Day
REGISTRATIONS OPEN FOR DISABILITY WATER SPORTS DAY ON TUTUKAKA COAST
Registrations are now open for the Flight Centre Foundation Halberg Water Sports Day taking place on Saturday 21 November on the Tutukaka Coast for physically disabled Northlanders to try paddle boarding, rowing, waka ama, sailing, surfing and boogie boarding.
The day is hosted by the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation, as part of the Flight Centre Foundation Halberg Water Sports Programme which gives physically disabled New Zealanders the opportunity to enjoy a range of water sports at a series of events around the country this summer.
The Tutukaka Coast day will take place at two locations; paddle boarding, rowing, waka ama and sailing will be held at Kowharewa Bay from 9.00am to 1.00pm while surfing and boogie boarding will be at Sandy Bay from 11.00am to 3.00pm.
The Halberg Disability Sport Foundation is working in partnership with Tokerau Beachboys, Tutukaka Surf Experience, Sailability Northland, Rehab Works, SUP Bro Tours, Waka Ama NZ, Mitimitanga Waka Ama Club and Red Air Paddle Boards to deliver the day.
Volunteers from those organisations, Flight Centre staff and local community members will all receive ‘Halberg No Exceptions Training’ from the Foundation. The training will give them the skills and confidence to support the participants at the event.
On the day the Flight Centre Foundation will also donate modified equipment to SUP Bro Tours and the Mitimitanga Waka Ama Club to ensure they can continue to offer support and events for physically disabled Kiwis interested in paddle boarding and waka ama.
To register as a participant or volunteer for the Flight Centre Foundation Halberg Surf Day at on Saturday 21 November contact Halberg Disability Sport Adviser Maia Lewis on maia@halberg.co.nz or 021 995 951. For more information go to www.halbergallsports.co.nz.
