Memorable Visit Planned for Royal Couple
Wed 14 Oct 2015
New Plymouth District Council will be pulling out all the stops as the district prepares to host British royalty.
As announced by Prime Minister John Key, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will be visiting New Plymouth in November while on their New Zealand tour.
Says Mayor Andrew Judd: “The Royal Family attracts significant international media coverage and we look forward to placing New Plymouth and Taranaki firmly in that spotlight.
“We’ll be working to ensure that the city looks its best for this historic visit and that the Royal couple have a memorable time here.”
During their visit the Royal couple will attend an afternoon function at Brooklands Park hosted by Mayor Judd on behalf of the district. The invitees will come from a range of community organisations, local industry, and the arts and culture sector.
The park will not be their only stop with The Duchess visiting the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre and the Prince making a trip to Faull Farm for a tour of the SuperShed – a high-producing, economically and environmentally sustainable dairy farming operation.
The couple will enjoy the Coastal Walkway with an opportunity to meet the community at the iconic Te Rewa Rewa Bridge before departing the city.
