Spring brings out the DIY in us
No one likes being without gas or electricity. Often, damage can occur because of over enthusiastic DIY’ers not checking
what services are underground before undertaking works such as fencing, trenching or other home improvement projects.
If you hit any of our networks it could also prove fatal. Power lines and cables – even at low voltages – can kill. So
if people are planning to dig on private or public property, or working near overhead lines, you must follow the right
safe working practices and get reference maps or onsite advice where necessary.

Network summary for week ending 11 October 2015
Electricity
Five car v pole incidents occurred in Clendon, Panmure, Shelly Park, Papakura and Glendowie. A car also struck a
transformer in Mt Albert during the week.
Crews also attended three house fires to isolate the electricity supply so fire service personnel could work safely in
Otahuhu, Avondale and Mt Roskill.
Gas
Damage was caused to our networks in Birkenhead, Whakatane, Remuera, Hamilton and Hamilton East.
A car crashed into a house in Mangere on Sunday afternoon, damaging the house and rupturing the gas supply. Vector crews
were quickly on hand to isolate the supply while the police eventually apprehended the driver who had attempted to run
away.
