New CEO for Nelson Provincial Museum
The Exhibition Manager from Auckland’s MOTAT, Lucinda Blackley-Jimson, has been appointed as the new CEO of the Nelson Provincial Museum.
Tasman Bays Heritage Trust Chair Olivia Hall says Blackley-Jimson was employed by MOTAT (Museum of Transport And Technology) to transform a tired exhibition program.
“Lucinda added interactivity to MOTAT, engaging art and science, as well as family appeal; prior to that she was Team Leader Interpretation at Te Papa for almost ten years,” Hall said. “We are thrilled to have her join us in Nelson and we know she will help take our museum into our next phase of development."
Blackley-Jimson said she is very excited about bringing together her love for museums and with one of the places of greatest natural beauty in New Zealand.
“Nelson has a rich heritage and a vibrant cultural expression and I feel honoured to be able to contribute to that,” she said. “I'm passionate about engaging visitors with contemporary stories and heritage and I also see the Nelson Provincial Museum as an opportunity to make a vital hub of creativity, reflection, and communication in the region."
Blackley-Jimson’s academic background is in cultural anthropology (BA Hons), with a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies. She is a qualified Project Manager (NZ Institute of Management) and holds many industry-related qualifications, including the National Services Te Paerangi / Victoria University Business School's 'Strategic Leadership for Museum Professionals, He Kahui Kakakura'.
Blackley-Jimson will be at the Museum for the week beginning 9 November to meet key staff and attend the Nelson Bays’ Heritage Trust AGM. She starts full time in Nelson on 30 November.
The public is invited to attend new CEO Lucinda Blackley-Jimson's powhiri and official welcome at Whakatu Marae at 9am on November 9 or to meet her at the AGM at 3pm on November 11 at the Museum. Three Trustee positions are being advertised with more info atwww2.jacksonstone.co.nz/JobInfo/43014
