Wastewater (Sewer) Pipeline Renewals Works in Childers Road
Traffic detours and parking restrictions will be in place on Childers Road between Lowe and Bright Streets for the next
four weeks as sewer pipes are renewed.
A section of Childers Road between Lowe and Peel Streets will be down to one lane for at least the first week when work
starts on Monday 12 October.
Speed restrictions of 30km will be in place during excavation work to replace the manholes, located at the intersection
with Peel Street and Childers Road and in front of 81 Childers Road.
The footpath will be also be closed to pedestrians to allow excavation work to take place.
“Contractors will begin Monday 12 October if the forecast is good,” says water utilities manager Neville West.
“A recent assessment of the manhole and pipe found it to be in very poor condition. Repair work includes replacing
manholes and inserting a structural liner inside the old pipes which will reduce the overall disruption.”
“We won’t need to excavate any of the new surfaces laid in last year’s street upgrade,” says Mr West.
There will be no carparks available within the work area, for the safety of all concerned Council staff and Tairāwhiti
Roads are requesting heavy vehicles divert along Lowe, Kahutia and Bright Streets during the works.
“We appreciate your patience while our work is carried out and ask drivers and pedestrians to please take care around
the work area.”
