Friday Night Food Trucks move back to the Square over summer
Summer is coming and so are the Friday Night Food Trucks, serving up a variety of awesome street food in Cathedral
Square starting tomorrow, Friday 9 October 2015.
Following Christchurch City Council's successful trial last summer in the Square and complementing the winter season run
by Gap Filler and The Commons, Friday Night Food Trucks will return to The Square over the 2015 –16 summer period.
The trucks will be there every Friday from 9 October 2015 to 25 March 2016 except on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Food Truck culture has become a highlight of the city experience in Christchurch and the Council is grateful that the
Commons and others have kept the trucks going over the winter.
Food Trucks offer a range of cuisines – from Mexican street food to Pinoy, Vietnamese, and European dishes, sweet treats
and delights.
Operating from 4–9pm on Friday nights, the Friday Night Food Trucks programme invites residents and visitors to explore
a variety of foods, experience street entertainment and participate in family-based activities. It’s also a chance for
Cantabrians, especially people from the suburbs, to reconnect with the heart of Christchurch City in and around the
Square.
Carolyn Ingles, Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager says, "Friday Night Food Trucks is a relaxing family activity
that provides a great reason for people of all ages to come into the Central City, see the progress being made, visit
some new attractions, and see how Christchurch is being reshaped, restored and revitalised."
"Come, eat, and just hang out. Let the kids enjoy the fair-like atmosphere that gives our Central City a warm and
friendly feel. Make Cathedral Square your backyard each Friday night. Just come, bring the family, meet up with your
friends – you won't be disappointed," Ingles says.
