Summer Starter takes one Cantabrian from the Beach to the Big Apple!

Christchurch’s newest wellbeing event, the Summer Starter has revealed another major act of generosity from Strategic Partner, Kevin Eder from Tradestaff. Kevin Eder has donated one free trip to New York City to run in the New York Marathon, to one lucky Summer Starter participant.

Last year, Kevin Eder, owner of Tradestaff, bought flights, accommodation and an entry into the New York Marathon at a charity auction for the Achilles Foundation. After realising that running 42km might be meant for someone else, Eder has generously donated the prize to a lucky participant in Summer Starter. Tradestaff have also managed to get their whole team committed to partaking in this year’s event, supporting one of six Summer Starter charities, Clown Doctors. “Compared to other Christchurch businesses, Tradestaff has managed to dodge extreme post-earthquake hardships,” Eder says, “so we are determined to find ways to give back to the community”.

The 2016 New York trip includes six night’s accommodation in a Times Square Four Star Hotel; return economy class flights from Christchurch to New York; as well as one charity entry into the world’s biggest running event: The TCS New York City Marathon. The winner will join the Achilles New Zealand Celebrity Ambassadors in the run from the Staten Island Bridge through to Manhattan. For this New Zealand Charity, running alongside over 50,000 others is an annual feat, and the launch of this competition is timely, with their 2015 team setting off in just a couple of weeks. The 2016 Achilles New Zealand Ambassadors are yet to be confirmed but expect to feature celebrities: Nadine Chalmers, Greg Boyed, Corin Dann (TVNZ), and Frank Bunce and Tawera Nikau (former New Zealand rugby players). They will be helping to assist those with physical disabilities accomplish the huge 42km distance.

Last year 4,000 colourful Cantabrians came together in a movement for charity and a celebration of our city. After its huge success, the Summer Starter, Canterbury’s Fun Run / Walk, is back for 2015 with more charities, more participants and this great prize.
