Otira Gorge slip: care needed even with two lanes

1 October 2015 | NZ Transport Agency - Southern Region

Otira Gorge slip: care needed even with two lanes between West Coast and Canterbury, SH73 – 4.30 pm update, 1 October

By 6pm tonight, 1 October, the NZ Transport Agency is aiming to have both lanes open at the site of yesterday’s rockfall at the Rock Shelter, Otira Gorge, State highway 73.

However, the lanes will be restricted to just three metres wide each, so truck drivers and other drivers of large vehicles need to exercise care.

“We are advising freight operators to please be cautious of this,” said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.

“Tomorrow we will have more information on how long the narrowed lanes will be in place.”

For earlier updates on the Otira Gorge slip and building in extra time for the journey read the earlier media releases.
