Howick Ward Councillors Welcome Overseas Investment in the Pakuranga Plaza
Howick Ward councillors Dick Quax and Sharon Stewart welcome the vision of Singapore based Global Yellow Pages (GYP) to invest in the upgrade of the Pakuranga Plaza.
Councillors were briefed earlier this week by GYP non executive chairman and independent director Mr Mah Bow Tan on the plans to spend over $500m on the site staged over the next ten to fifteen years.
Cr Sharon Stewart said that this is an exciting, bold and visionary plan that is being proposed.
“The Pakuranga Plaza was one of the first malls developed fifty years ago and this forward looking proposal will not only provide a modern retail experience but also entertainment, housing and community facilities.”
Cr Dick Quax welcomed the planned improvements in particular the provision of green space something missing from the present centre.
“I’m particularly impressed with the plan to connect the centre to the iconic Rotary Walkway that winds around the Tamaki River.”
“It’s a similar concept to the Civic Square in Wellington which connects the city centre with the Wellington waterfront via the City to Sea Bridge across the busy Jervois Quay.”
Both councillors are pleased that concept plans also include the much needed Reeves Road Flyover.
