Beach BBQs fired up

Two new electric double burner barbeques that have been installed along the newly completed Oneroa cycle and walkway have been turned on and are ready to use.

After the initial trial period there has been some internal and external adjustments to ensure the BBQs are safe and operational.

“The barbeques will be free for people to use and will add an extra experience for people to enjoy our beachfront,” says community and recreation facilities team leader Garrett Blair.

One BBQ area was installed near the Midway Surf Club and a second towards the Beacon Street carpark.

The BBQ’s run at approximately 200 degrees Celsius and are operated by a push and hold ignition button.

“The hot plates will be heated for 28 minutes, a buzzer will sound three times at the end of the cooking cycle, then automatically switch off.”

Instructions are on the front panel under each hot plate where the on button is located.

“We do advise some cautions for safe use,

“Children must be supervised at all times when within these areas. Be aware the hot plates will remain hot for a short period of time after use and please don’t sit or stand on the BBQ’s at any time.”

Mayor Meng Foon says the BBQs are fantastic for families and social gatherings, he hopes people will share with each other.

“The BBQ’s are for the community we ask people to look after these areas and be considerate of others and use ‘The Chefs Code’:

1. Clean BBQ plate after use in preparation for the next user

2. Please dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided

3. Limit your time on the BBQ’s to allow access by others

“We’ll see you there with your sausages.”
