Release of names following incident at Lake Tekapo
The two young tourists who died following the tragic events on Lake Tekapo on Friday the 25th of September 2015 were Daniel Thomas Hollnsteiner (aged 21) from New York, USA and James Robert Murphy (aged 20) from London, England.
New Zealand Police extends our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of these young men.
The men were members of a party of 11 friends who got into difficulty on Lake Tekapo while kayaking yesterday afternoon.
The group are students attending Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and were visiting New Zealand during a semester break.
The three other members of the groups who were admitted to Hospital last night will released from the Timaru Hospital later this afternoon.
Inquiries into the event will continue over the weekend and the matter will be referred to the coroner.
