Iconic Wellington architect firm engaged for new library project
Celebrated Wellington firm, Athfield Architects will be providing architectural and design services for the new $16.5
million Johnsonville Library project.
Johnsonville’s new library will be larger than the current library at 1,800 square metres and a flexible, modern library
space providing the latest technology for visitors.
The new library will be located adjacent to Keith Spry Pool and Johnsonville Community Centre.
Councillor Sarah Free, Portfolio leader for Community Facilities says, “this is a fantastic opportunity to create an
integrated community facility for the Johnsonville community”.
“Families will be able to enjoy the pool, a new modern library and community centre all in one visit”, she says.

The project’s first milestone, concept design is due to be completed by November 2015. Developed design will be
completed by May 2016 and detailed design by September 2016. Construction will begin in 2017, and completion is planned
for May 2018.
