Change to starting date: South of Kaikoura, State Highway 1 to Cheviot, road work for two-and-a-half months, single lane October
The NZ Transport Agency’s ten weeks of road repairs on the state highway just 3km south of Oaro, near Kaikoura, scheduled for the end of September is now likely to start 12 October. (See the Transport Agency web map for exact location.)
The highway will be reduced to a single lane with traffic signals. Drivers should expect delays of ten minutes at times. A retaining wall has to be constructed and a guardrail reinstated for the summer holiday period.
