New road layout for NorthWest Shopping Centre

New road layout to improve access to NorthWest Shopping Centre

The NZ Transport Agency has changed the Hobsonville interchange on SH16 to improve access for customers using the new NorthWest Shopping Centre which is opening next month.

The Transport Agency, working with Auckland Transport and the developers DNZ and NZRPG have been working to create new access to the site, north of Fred Taylor Drive.

While changes to the interchange come into effect this week, access to the shopping centre will not be available until the mall opening date on October 1.

The changed layout means there’ll be a new lane which will allow traffic heading to the centre to exit SH16 westbound and drive directly on to Gunton Drive, which is a new access road leading to the shopping centre.

The NZ Transport Agency’s Highways Manager Brett Gliddon says roads around the new shopping centre are expected to be busy, especially in the first few weeks of its opening and at weekends.

“We ask drivers heading to the shopping centre to be patient, allow extra time and follow any diversion signs in place to manage the high traffic demand.”

For those not travelling to the mall, consider an alternative motorway exit rather than using the Hobsonville interchange. Those alternatives include:

Brigham Creek Offramp Westbound on SH18

Trigg Rd offramp Westbound on SH18

Royal Rd offramp Westbound from SH16

Getting on the motorway consider using Royal Rd onramp citybound on SH16.
