Major slip closes Maniatutu Road north of Rotoiti
Following recent heavy rain a major slip has closed Maniatutu Road north of Lake Rotoiti.
Maniatutu Road, a local rural road between Otaramarae and Pongakawa, was closed to traffic on Wednesday afternoon. Rotorua Lakes Council says the slip is located about nine kilometres north of the Rotoiti end of Maniatutu Road, near the Rotorua Lakes Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council boundaries.
Rotorua Lakes Council roading contractors are currently working to clear the slip but warn that it might be several days before the road can be made safe and re-opened.
Local residents with medical conditions are advised to consider making precautionary arrangements in case a medical emergency develops.
Emergency services and New Zealand Transport Agency have been informed of the road’s closure.
