Traumatic Amputation, Kuratau
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Kuratau, north of Turangi, early this afternoon, to retrieve a 61-year old man who sustained injury to 2 fingers of his right hand, when he reached under his lawn mower.
Although the man had stopped the engine of the mower, the blades were still turning, causing significant damage. He was flown directly to Waikato Hospital for treatment. The helicopter was deployed due to the remoteness of the area, and the need for rapid transport to the vascular clinic.
