Overdue boat in Catlins area
At about 6.00pm on Wednesday the 16th of September 2015 Police were advised of an overdue boat in the Catlins area.
A 77 year old Owaka man and a 60 year old Owaka woman have not returned from their fishing trip off the Owaka coast.
They were in a silver 5.2 metre pontoon style Kiwicraft and left the Catlins Heads at around 8.30am Wednesday morning. They were due back before dark that night and have not returned.
The vehicle and trailer are still at the launch site.
A Marine Search and Rescue operation has been launched and is being run out of Owaka. A water and air search of the area has not yet located anything of interest and search efforts are being hampered by fog.
Searchers from South Otago and Dunedin will be involved in the search.
The names of the missing persons will be released once all family members have been advised.
