Significant quantity of methamphetamine seized in South Island
As part of a coordinated Police operation, one man has been arrested this morning and a significant quantity of
methamphetamine destined for the South Island has been seized.
Detective Inspector Stu Graham from OFCANZ says: “At approximately 12.15am this morning a vehicle was stopped by members
of the Tasman District Armed Offenders Squad as it left the ferry terminal at Picton. The sole occupant was arrested and
a search of the vehicle resulted in a significant quantity of methamphetamine estimated to be in excess of 1kg being
seized.”
The 22-year-old man is due to appear in Blenheim District Court today charged with possession for supply of
methamphetamine.
“A search warrant was also executed by Canterbury Police, without incident, this morning at a Papanui address. Armed
Police will remain at the scene while a search of the property is completed,” says Detective Inspector Graham.
“New Zealand Police are committed to interrupting the supply of illegal drugs in New Zealand and preventing the social
harm this illegal activity supports. It is estimated the street value of this morning’s seizure is in excess of $1
million NZD.”
Police inquiries are continuing.
