Join in the family fun at Ambury Farm Day
Have a go at gumboot throwing, watch the sheep shearing or get up close and personal with some of the farmyard residents at Auckland Council’s Ambury Farm Day on 4 October.
Now in its 27th year, the annual event at the council’s Ambury Regional Park is extremely popular, attracting more than 30,000 people a day.
“The mixture of fun, farming and education is a real hit, especially for those not often exposed to farm life,” says Cr Christine Fletcher, chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Committee.
“Ambury is a working farm, which a lot of people don’t expect so close to the city. The council is also one of the region’s largest farmers.”
Mixed with the farm-style fun will be live entertainment, a bouncy castle, great food and rides, wood chopping and if you cycle to the event, your ride will get a free tune-up.
“Ambury Farm Day is a great day out for family
and friends of all ages; bring a picnic lunch or enjoy the
food on site,” senior ranger Wayne Carlson says.
“It brings a touch of country to the big smoke and to do this, we have more than 200 volunteers who assist us on the day - some who were at the very first event.”
