Council consulting children over wet play area
The Council is consulting young people on a proposed new wet play area, which $500,000 was budgeted for in the Long-term Plan finalised in June this year.
The consultation dovetails with the Council’s priority - to put children and young people at the heart of the Council’s decisions.
Mayor Nick Leggett said people’s input from consultation would feed into the design of the play area. Consultation runs 28 September to 11 October.
“These school holidays the Council is walking the talk by setting up events to engage with children about what they want in their new wet play area. Children have asked for this play area in the city and now we need their creative and imaginative ideas so we can turn them into reality.”
The Council is running sessions at Pātaka for children during the school holidays about the location and types of water play Council will open for them in December 2016.
As well as some Pātaka Holiday programmes that will focus on wet play, the Tuatara Gallery will provide another fun opportunity for children to have a say with:
• Large printed posters on gallery walls with voting/feedback containers and a postcard response that the children can draw or write about and post.
• Creation of a collaborative sculpture
• A session where children make individual sculptures
• Children will also be able to vote/give their feedback at the libraries.
“We will also be talking to children from some of our schools and asking them to help review the ideas and suggestions made during the school holidays.”
