Auckland City Missioner Leaving After 22 Years

Auckland City Missioner Leaving After 22 Years of Service to Auckland

Dame Diane Robertson, Auckland City Missioner, today announced her resignation after 22 years of service to Auckland, but said she would stay on until after Christmas to assist the Mission through its traditionally busy Christmas period.

The announcement was made by Bishop Jim White, the Acting Chairman of the Board of the Auckland City Mission.

“Dame Diane has led the Auckland City Mission through a period of unprecedented growth and service to Auckland communities, and the Board wishes to thank her for her commitment and leadership during this extended period.

“Dame Diane’s Investiture this week is well deserved recognition of the role she has played in addressing communities in need, and her role as a high profile advocate for those without a voice in those communities,” Bishop White said.

“We are grateful that Dame Diane has agreed to stay on until after our busy Christmas season is over, and hopefully can assist with the transition to a new Auckland City Missioner, who we will be seeking to recruit as soon as possible,” he said.

Dame Diane said she was grateful to have had support from so many volunteers, outstanding staff and supporters of the Mission during her period as Missioner.

“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Auckland in this capacity,” she said.

Dame Diane said she was unable to say at this point what would be her next challenge, but said she had acquired a range of diverse skills in her 22 years with the Mission and looked forward to using them to continue to serve communities within New Zealand.

“Over recent months I have had approaches from a number of people who believe that I can add value to the work they are doing, and I will be considering those opportunities in due course,” she said.
