Papakura Whanau Fun day
Date: 12th September 2015
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: Papakura Recreation Centre, 294, Great South Road, Papakura
On Saturday 12th September 2015, Papakura Recreation Centre will present Papakura Whānau Day.
For the fourth consecutive year the Papakura Whānau Day will celebrate and support the wellbeing, development and self-determination of the Papakura community. Ants Hawke – Kaiwhakahaere of the Preventing Gambling Harm team at Hāpai Te Hauora says “Our whānau understand the negative impacts social and health issues have on themselves and their community. We believe Papakura Whānau day is a way the whānau can learn more to see other ways they can address issues”. There will be interactive spaces, a showcase of local talents from the stage, a range of physical activities to give a go and many prizes to be won. “Because the Whānau Day is about giving families the opportunity to spend time together in healthy and positive environments, the main prize of the day is an activity package for a family to explore the range of activities available in Auckland for which a range of organisations including Fullers Cruises have donated to.”
Youth play a pivotal role in Papakura in the present and in the future. To strengthen their vision for Papakura, youth will play a major role in both activities and performances on the day. Nivarna Harris, member of Connecting Papakura says “Youth involvement in this event is a key component, 45% of the Papakura population is youth. This event is to empower our youth and not isolate them. It’s about getting them involved with healthy activities, work experience and raising awareness of the different facilities they can take advantage of and further themselves. Our youth are our leaders of today, they are our future.”
Bring the whānau down for a kai, get involved in healthy activities, and be in to win the grand prize, an adventure around Tamaki Makaurau.
