QLDC Working with Licensees on RWC Events
QLDC’s regulatory staff are working with bars, hotels and clubs wanting to open outside normal hours during Rugby World
Cup matches, to help them comply with the special provisions the Government has put in place for the tournament.
QLDC’s Regulatory Manager, Lee Webster, said his staff had contacted all the licensees who were eligible to open, to
explain what they need to do.
“It’s fairly straightforward as they don’t have to apply for a special licence any more. They need to notify the
District Licensing Committee and the Police at least seven days before the match, and provide a noise management plan.”
The special provisions only apply to venues that will be screening world cup matches live. Delayed coverage, repeat
screenings or broadcasts of other events are not included, and venues won’t be able to use any outdoor seating areas or
have external speakers relaying coverage outside.
Mr Webster said that any licensee planning to open for the first match, England v Fiji, at 7am on Saturday 19 September,
would need to notify the District Licensing Committee and the Police by Friday this week.
