‘Say No’ – Wairoa Creatives Compose Amalgamation Song
A group of talented and creative Wairoa residents have written a song to send a message to the people of Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay about amalgamation.
Titled ‘SAY NO’ – the song and lyrics are a way for this group of individuals to convey their message and their concerns about the amalgamation proposal for Hawke’s Bay.
With a mix of English and Māori lyrics, traditional and modern beats incorporating various musical styles and voices, the message is clear, “SAY NO TO AMALGAMATION”.
Craig Little says he was approached by young creative members of the community who wanted to talk about this issue in their way. To be able to communicate their message to all of us who will be affected by this vote.
They asked me to be part of their song and I was a bit apprehensive, because I have no musical bone in my body, but when I hear this final piece, I am just so proud, so wrapped that our creative and talented young people want to get involved and this song is their message to us all.
They have some serious concerns about this proposal for Wairoa and for Hawke’s Bay and this song is so awesome, the lyrics are just so powerful. I’m so proud of them.
