Queenstown Water Taxis buys bigger boat for increased visitors
Arriving in Queenstown will never be the same again - Queenstown Water Taxis has added a brand new boat to its fleet of taxis, increasing the number of passengers and groups it can transport across Lake Wakatipu.
The company - providing water transport and transfers to and from many locations around Frankton, Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu – have welcomed the arrival for a ‘Niaid’, an 11 metre purpose built luxury water taxi, capable of carrying up to 40 passengers.
Queenstown Water Taxis director Neville Kelly said the new boat not only reflects substantial growth within the business, but the increased capacity now means large groups of visitors are very well catered for.
“The conferencing and incentive market in Queenstown is getting bigger and bigger, with groups coming from across the country and overseas to hold unforgettable events,” said Neville.
“I can’t think of a better way to arrive in style than on an airport transfer, straight into the heart of the town, soaking up the 360-degree views.
“With the addition of a second boat, we can now carry up to 60 passengers.”
The bigger boat also means there’s room for twice as many bikes or golf clubs, while the grouped seating ensures passengers are more social and can fully utilise the guided service for private charters and tours.
Queenstown Water Taxis also operate sister company Thunder Jet, a family-owned business with a 25 year history in the local tourism and transport industry.
Thunder Jet has been operating for over five years and in that time has expanded its business through market demand and the acquisition of high-speed, state-of-the-art jet boats.
Thunder Jet’s most popular experience is its high-speed one-hour adventure from either Frankton Marina or Queenstown Bay. Passengers skim down Lake Wakatipu, twisting and turning at up to 90km an hour on the lake and in the clear, shallow waters of the Kawarau River.
A drawcard is the river component where passengers see untouched, inaccessible and often dramatic natural scenery with a few of the famous Thunder Jet 360-degree ‘Hamilton’ spins thrown in for good measure.
The Queenstown Water Taxis service departs daily from Queenstown Steamer Wharf to the DoubleTree by Hilton Queenstown hotel between 10am and 9.30pm.
