New Nelson air link welcome, says Wellington Mayor
A cheaper air service to Nelson announced today by Jetstar will boost business and leisure travel between the two cities, says Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
The Nelson – Wellington link was among a cluster of four new regional Jetstar routes including Napier, Palmerston North and New Plymouth.
“More connections with the top of the south is a good boost for New Zealand tourism and will provide more connections with trans-Tasman flights in and out of Wellington.
“The Nelson and other routes are good for regional economic development,” she says.
Deputy Mayor Justin Lester says the competitive pricing will also encourage travellers.
“Nelson is a popular get-away destination for a weekend break and the new service will make it affordable and accessible,” he says. “The new connection will further boost the significant growth experienced by Wellington airport in the last five years.
“Expanding Wellington’s catchment is another small step toward expanding Wellington’s desirability as an international location.
“There are a lot of business opportunities in Wellington and the improved connectivity fits with Wellington’s long term aspiration to be a connected city,” he says.
