Double the Roller Derby action
Wellington’s Richter City Roller Derby league will host a rare doubleheader vs Dead End Derby Christchurch Rollergirls
on Saturday 5 September at Kilbirnie Rec Centre.
A curtain raiser will see Richter’s development team the Convicts take on DED’s development team the Living Dead Rollers
in a matchup that’s sure to test the national system for ranking teams – the Convicts are currently ranked NZ 7th while
the Living Dead come in at 14th in an NZ-based calculator.
Later in the evening the NZ #1 ranked Richter City All Stars will take on the #3 ranked Dead End Derby All Stars for the
first time in Wellington since 2011. Roller derby players and fans from around the country will have an eye on this
game, as both teams boast skaters from the 2014 New Zealand Roller Derby national squad, and both recently returned with
wins in tournaments in Australia.
Now in its seventh year of public competition, Richter City is the premier derby league in New Zealand. The All Stars
are one of just two NZ teams who belong to the international Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) – in June they
returned from Canberra with a podium finish behind the Aus #4 and #5 ranked teams – and their debut in the international
rankings.
Spectators will have to get in quick for the limited number of seats available.
