Dawn blessing today for Auckland’s newest urban village
This morning’s dawn Maori blessing and official sod-turning marks the start of construction of the first building in
Alexandra Park’s stunning new urban village.
“This is a great milestone for Alexandra Park and a great day for Auckland. We’re delighted Iwi are giving it their
blessing as this is a very special part of Tamaki Makaurau,” says Alexandra Park chief executive Dominique Dowding.
“This first building will be stunning with 118 apartments and 2,500 sqm of ground-floor retail space. Our display suite
has done a lot of business in recent months and anticipation is at an all-time high. It’s an exciting time, and come
early 2017 our first residents will be moving in. We can’t wait to see the transformation,” says Ms Dowding.
Kaumatua and representatives from Ngāti Whātua, Ngāi Tai Ki Tāmaki, Ngāti Tamaoho, Te Akitai and Ngāti Maru will be in
attendance at today’s 5.45am blessing at Alexandra Park’s car-park on Green Lane West.
Attendees will also include Auckland’s Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse, Auckland Trotting Club president Kerry Hoggard, board
members and staff, and representatives from Canam Construction Limited, Campbell Brown Planning Limited, architects RTA
Studio, and Colliers International.
