The week has been timed to coincide with New Zealand's Chinese Language Week.
Daily cultural activities will take place between 1-2pm at the top of Trafalgar Street.
Other events, such as talks about doing business with China at BNZ on Tuesday 8th, and a run of Chinese movies at NMIT’s
‘Johnny Cash’ room throughout the week, will help you immerse yourself and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation
of Chinese culture.
On Thursday evening join us at NMIT’s Rata Room for a ‘Pen Cai’ dining experience hosted by experienced Chinese Chef,
Steven Chen.
Throughout the week treat yourself to a Taste of China, visiting local Chinese restaurants New Asia and Nelson Oriental
as well as Verdict Restaurant to sample some of the special dishes featured on the menu in celebration of China Week.
The Hollow Tea Room is also hosting a photographic exhibition on Customs in Chinese New Year as well as a series of
health talks from specialists Mark Soper "Good health through tea" and John Black "Basic principles of traditional

Wednesday evening's offering at Saxton Table Tennis stadium is a fun interactive demonstration with Nelsonian Bin Quan
Hu and world-class player Zeng Sang and coach Lin Zhichao from our sister city, Huangshi.
There will be another chance to test your skills at the NMIT community day on Sat 12th September at the student centre

The Nelson Mayor, Rachel Reese, says it’s a wonderful opportunity to both showcase and celebrate the connection the city
has with China.
“The programme includes a spectacular array of activities which really demonstrate the unique and very special
relationship Nelson shares with our friends in China.
“Being able to host this many activities for all age groups is an absolute joy, and is something I hope our city will
truly embrace.
“The benefits of cross-cultural relationships and connectivity between our two nations are well-documented and we hope
China Week is a fun and relevant way of demonstrating this,” she says.
