Motor vehicle accidents require chopper
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched at approximately 11pm last night to transfer a 55 year old Taupo man to Waikato Hospital.
The man had sustained serious internal injuries as a result of a crash between his quad bike and a school bus. He was transferred to Waikato Hospital for further treatment under care of an ICU flight team.
On Saturday morning another motor vehicle accident required the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter, this time in rural Te Aroha. The male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was injured in the early hours of Saturday morning when his car left the road, and collided with a power pole.
With the assistance of night vision goggles the rescue helicopter landed in a paddock near the accident scene. The local fire service had extracted the driver from the vehicle which had become entangled in live power lines. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported the man to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
