Inner city poster stations offer free local event promotion
A series of poster boards have begun appearing at high profile locations throughout the inner city to help promote local community events.
The boards are free for local residents and organisations to use for advertising their events as part of Rotorua Lakes Council’s Rotorua 2030 priority to develop a vibrant inner city. They are a response to community requests for ways to more easily find out about events happening in the city.
The first poster boards have been installed on the outside wall of the Lucky Lottery Shop on the corner of Haupapa and Tutanekai streets.
The council’s Creative Communities Portfolio lead, Councillor Glenys Searancke, said the poster boards were a grand idea for community groups to advertise what is going on in and around Rotorua.
“The attractive wooden frames also support the city’s Wood First policy and over time will become readily recognisable to local residents. I’m delighted that we finally have somewhere tailor-made for community groups to show their promotional posters rather than just shop windows. It looks tidier and more stylish, and I’m sure they’ll be very popular.”
Tania Short, council Creative Communities lead advisor, said she was looking forward to seeing event information shared within the new frames throughout the inner city.
“The poster boards will be at well-sited locations and
allow community event organisers to advertise their events
for free.
“But we’re asking people to be courteous when using the poster boards and not paste over other events that are still current, and to advertise each event with just one poster at each facility.”
Poster boards will be monitored regularly and if any organisation is identified as consistently breeching the rules they will no longer be permitted to use the frames to advertise their community events.
A total of four poster boards are initially planned for the inner city in the coming weeks.
