Installation of new bus shelters

Eight new bus shelters will be installed around Palmerston North over the next month by Horizons Regional Council.

Horizons transport manager Phillip Hindrup says the new shelters will be a welcome addition for bus users trying to shield themselves from the elements.

“We work very hard on identifying the stops that would most benefit from these shelters as we can only install a limited amount each year,” Mr Hindrup says.

“We work very hard, along with Palmerston North City Council, on identifying what stops would most benefit from these shelters as we can only install a limited amount each year,” Mr Hindrup says.

“Generally, bus stops that receive shelters are selected based on the volume of passengers in that area.

“But this isn’t a hard and fast rule and we’re always open to other suggestions for future sites.

“There are some restrictions on where bus shelters are allowed to be located, such as sidewalk space, so it’s not always possible to have shelters at certain stops.”

The eight new bus shelters will be located at: 77 Slacks Road, 345 Ruahine Street, 892 Main Street, 143 Rangiora Avenue, 4 Rhodes Drive, 48 Kelvin Grove Road, 50 Pahiatua Street and 1043 Tremaine Avenue.

Four new shelters are funded each year, with this year’s installation serving two financial years.

Suggestions for future shelters can be made to the Horizons transport team via toll free number 0508 800 800.
