Historic CBDBuilding up for Sale by Tender
Historic CBDBuilding up for Sale by Tender
4 August 2015
An historic building in Hamilton’s CBD is being offered for sale by tender.
The Beggs-Wiseman Building overlooks the corner of Victoria Street – the CBD’s main thoroughfare – and Ward Street, and was constructed in 1917.
The two-storey building has been put up for sale following a decision by Hamilton City Council, with the sale to be managed by the Council’s Strategic Property Unit.
Nicolas Wells, the Council's Strategic Property Manager, says the sale of the property includes both the 450 sqm building itself and the 276 sqm site on which it sits.
Mr Wells says the building offers the new owner an opportunity to make a major contribution to the ongoing revitalisation of the city’s CBD.
“This is an historic and significant site and building,” Mr Wells says. “As well as the ground floor retail space, there are rooms upstairs which could be renovated and leased to one organisation or several different tenants.”
“The building really is a ‘blank canvas’ for a new owner to improve and develop.”
Mr Wells says tenders will be considered by the Council and the interested parties plans for the building and site will be a factor in the final decision on which tender is accepted.
Mr Wells expects keen interest in the Beggs-Wiseman Building, and would-be purchasers should liaise directly with their preferred real estate agent for more information on the property and the tender process.
Tenders for the property must be presented by 31 August.
