Petone Carnival best day out this winter
Saturday’s Petone Winter Carnival proved again why it’s the best day out in winter.
Wet weather day
didn’t stop almost 30,000 people heading to Petone
Foreshore for a mix of old favourites and exciting new
features.
About 85 people braved the icy waters off Petone Beach for the Mitre 10 MEGA Polar Plunge, which always kicks off the Carnival and is a good way to dust off winter cobwebs.
Model plane demonstrations, the local fire service showing how to keep safe and marshmallow toasting on the beach after dark were all new additions to the line-up this year. Carnival regulars would have noticed new music acts and food stalls too.
The Pelorus Trust Fire Show lit up the night sky and again proved a fitting finale to a great day out.
Brad Monaghan, Divisional Manager of Council’s City Promotions team said the Carnival is a fantastic day out for families.
“We work hard to ensure the carnival is accessible and affordable for families, especially those with young children.
“While this year’s weather saw a decrease in numbers, spirits on the ground weren’t dampened and the drizzle didn’t stop the tens of thousands who turned out making the most of it.”
The Petone Winter Carnival will return on the same weekend in 2016.
