Teenager charged with murder
Christchurch Police have commenced a homicide enquiry after the body of an elderly man was discovered in an Upper Riccarton address this morning (2 August 2015). “The victim resides at the address where he was discovered.
The address is being guarded and it is expected the crime scene examination will continue over the next few days” says Detective Inspector Tony Hill.
A second address is also being guarded and treated as a crime scene.
The Police have interviewed a number of people who are known to the victim.
One of them, a 16 year old, has been charged with murder.
“I can confirm the victim and the offender were known to each other” says Detective Inspector Hill.
There are 18 Police staff currently working on the investigation.
Their focus will be on people that have been in contact with the victim leading up to the death.
“Although the investigation is in its early stages, the arrest should help assure our community that the Upper Riccarton area continues to be safe place to live” says Detective Inspector Hill.
