Rates Ripoff Rally

PRESS RELEASE
RAY CALVER & DICK CUTHBERT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RATES RIPOFF RALLY

With Auckland rates increasing on average 9.9% a committed group of concerned Auckland residents have organised a Rates Ripoff Rally on Sunday August 16th 2015, where angry citizens can publicly show their opposition.

The rally will start at 1pm at Aotea Square and proceed to march to the Auckland Council building at 135 Albert Street.

The following speakers have been confirmed:

Stephen Berry – Affordable Auckland Mayoral Candidate
Penny Bright – Anti-corruption Public Watchdog & Auckland Mayoral Candidate
Lisa Prager – Spokesperson for Westmere Heritage Association
Bruce Rogan – Chair of the Mangawhai Residents and Ratepayers Association
Anne-Marie Coury – Grey Power

Ray Calver says “After the Auckland Rates Increases Public Meeting we have seen a swell of support from Auckland renters and home owners alike who are concerned about how the latest rates increases will affect them. A solo mum from Pukekohe told us at the meeting how her rates had gone from $700 to $2800 over the last 20 years and that she struggles with the increases. We’ve also heard similar things from pensioners and others on fixed and low incomes. It doesn’t matter whether you rent or own, rates increases hurt everyone. August 15th will be an opportunity for people to turn out in force and send a clear message to Auckland Council!”

The Rates Ripoff Rally will take place at 12pm on Saturday August 15th at Aotea Square downtown Auckland
