Arts and what’s on
Another snow dump is expected in Hastings this week – but this time it will be right in the centre of town.
Eighteen tonnes of “snow” is being trucked in for a special free event this Saturday (July 18): The Become A Star Snow Day, featuring rapper Tipene, xFactor star Stevie Tonks and local young performers.
The snow will be housed in a “massive igloo-shaped snow dome and dumped in drifts around the plaza outside the Hastings City Art Gallery”, said library programmes manager Carla Crosbie. “There’s no need to go to the mountain, the snow will be right here in Hastings.”
The Snow Day will cater for all ages, said Ms Crosbie, with little ones encouraged to take part in the puppet making and story time, and older ones the hip hop classes and volleyball. “But everyone will love the stage show.”
The programme has been put together by Hastings Library and Hastings City Art Gallery staff with local collective Become A Star, to encourage community engagement, tolerance and respect for others.
