Working to restore roads and power

Working to restore roads and power

Contractors are working tirelessly to get access restored to rural roads around the Gisborne District.

Priority is being given to those areas still without power, Eastland Network have brought in teams from outside the area to assist and ask people to please be patient.

State Highway 2 North from Gisborne to Opotiki has been opened this morning.

Civil Defence Emergency Manager Louise Bennett says "While the roads are open expect ice and melting snow. Motorists should still be extremely cautious and reduce speed for the conditions."

"Contractors do not have time to be pulling sight seeing vehicles from ditches."

Road access to Tiniroto has been restored but there is a large boulder down on the Tiniroto Bluffs.

"Please continue to take care in the area, Tairawhiti Roads may decide to close this road again overnight for safety."
