Rotorua themes for new inner city bus shelters

Rotorua themes for new inner city bus shelters

Colourful contemporary artwork depicting a series of Rotorua themes is a feature of new bus shelters currently being installed by Rotorua Lakes Council at new inner city bus stops.

Installation of the new shelters coincides with changes to the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Cityride bus services starting on Monday (20 July).

In total there will be six new bus shelters installed, each featuring a unique design that reflects the stories of Rotorua.

Rotorua District Council Inner City Revitalisation lead, Councillor Karen Hunt, says the shelters will be bright and attractive, and will include night lighting.

“They’ll add another dimension to our growing streetscape of artworks around the city, providing additional vibrancy and functionality, and enhancing our Rotorua 2030 inner city revitalisation goal.”

Ms Hunt said three uniquely Rotorua designs, by each of two talented artists – Henriata Nicholas and Ann Woolliams - had been selected to adorn the six bus shelters.

Changes to Cityride bus services include timetable improvements and the introduction of a new inner city bus loop with four new stops spread across the CBD.

The new stops on the inner city loop are in Arawa, Amohia and Fenton Streets and at Rotorua Central mall. From Monday (20 July) buses will no longer use the existing bus stop in Pukuatua Street which will be reconfigured to provide more car parking spaces.

Cityride bus services are operated under contract to Bay of Plenty Regional Council. Updated timetables are available from bus drivers, by visitingwww.baybus.co.nz or calling 0800 4 BAY BUS (0800 422 928).
