Living frame paints pretty picture of Lake Rotorua
A new temporary installation has been set up at Rotorua’s Lakefront as another inner city revitalisation initiative.
Called the Living Picture Frame it provides a large foliage-covered frame through which scenic photos can be taken of Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island.
The concept has been based around a similar idea submitted by local resident Lisa Wilson to Rotorua Lakes Council’s online Ideas Bank. Ms Wilson said she was excited to see how far the concept would go.
Plants have been mounted on the frame and the foliage will grow and spread over coming weeks to fully cover the frame’s entire surface. Tulips may also be added to coincide with the city’s Tulip Fest later in the year.
Rotorua Lakes Council says The Living Picture Frame encourages people to take photos of themselves, families and friends while standing or sitting within the frame, with Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island as a scenic backdrop.
It is hoped that it will help showcase the beauty of Rotorua to the world via images sent home by visitors, and by postings on social media channels.
It is anticipated that the Living Picture Frame will be moved to other locations around the district in the future.
