New Network for Hibiscus Coast

All feedback has now been analysed, decisions made, and plans have been put in place for the New Network for the Hibiscus Coast.

As a result of feedback, changes were made to ten of the eleven routes proposed for the Hibiscus Coast.

“We received a lot of very useful public feedback,” said Suresh Patel, lead Public Transport Planner for the Hibiscus Coast. “In response we were able to make changes that mean the new bus services will benefit the community more.” Some of the changes included making slight route modifications, and adding services that run a bit later or earlier than previously proposed. “Of course, we consider feedback along with a wide range of other influencing factors such as budget and geographical constraints, so not every request could be taken on board,” he says.

The benefits of the New Network for the Hibiscus Coast include extending a half-hourly Northern Express service to Silverdale which would run every 15 minutes at peak times, as well as more frequent and connected services to local destinations across the Hibiscus Coast.

Changes are planned to be implemented in October this year. A comprehensive information campaign will be carried out before the changes are made and new timetables will be available ahead of time so that commuters can plan their journey.

Hibiscus Coast Station gets resource consent

Stage 2 of the Hibiscus Coast Station has now been granted the necessary consents for construction to proceed. The project is budgeted for construction in the 2016/2017 financial year, with works anticipated to start in October 2016. This will include construction of the busway station, and an expansion of the car park to create an overall parking capacity of 484 spaces.

Unfortunately, the entire station will not be constructed in time for the launch of the New Network, however four new shelters have been installed adjacent to the current park and ride facility on Painton Road. In contrast to the old stop on Hibiscus Coast Highway these temporary stops and shelters provide a more pleasant environment for passengers to wait until the new busway station is complete. Investigations into the possibility of installing toilets and an expansion of the temporary parking area prior to the commencement of the stage 2 works are also currently underway.
