Four Wheel Drive Access to Pipiriki Estimated in 4-7 Days
Ruapehu District Council (RDC) road contractors have undertaken an aerial analysis of the two major slips blocking the Pipiriki-Raetihi Rd which have cut-off the Pipiriki community.
RDC took advantage of the aerial analysis to drop additional food and other supplies to Pipiriki residents and take two residents back into the settlement.
Road contractors were able to begin work on the first slip at the Raetihi end of the road yesterday.
Following today’s assessment it has been decided that a track will be cut into the bank to gain access to the second slip.
It is estimated that the Pipiriki-Raetihi Rd will be able to be open to four wheel drive vehicles in between four to seven days.
