Regional Leaders Advocate for Health Services
Otago’s communities must be able to access adequate and appropriate levels of healthcare, no matter how the Southern District Health Board is governed.
The Otago Mayoral Forum, made up of the five Mayors and Regional Council Chair, says that the Government’s decision to replace the elected health board with a Commissioner should not spell a reduction in accessibility or services.
“We are all concerned that there are adequate and appropriate healthcare services for all of our communities – big and small,” the regional leaders say.
Realistically, communities will always have different levels of service delivered locally depending on size and needs. There is always scope for changes in how services are delivered, but the Mayoral Forum said that this should be based on agreed baselines.
